Get To Know: Timo Weiland

Classic American prep with a modern New York twist is how we would describe the Timo Weiland style. Seen on the likes of Keri Washington and Taylor Swift, Timo Weiland has made its way into everyone who’s anyone’s wardrobes in New York’s fashion scene - fast.

Formerly an investment banker analyst, the now-famous designer hung up his corporate suit to pursue a life in fashion. Together with co-designers Alan Eckstein and Donna Kang, whom he met during his stint at the Fashion Institute of Technology, the trio have been creating quality collections with a playful flair built around the ethos of "Creating clothes to live in".

One interesting and perhaps lesser known fact about the designers of Timo Weiland is that they have become respectable DJs for underground parties all over New York. Quoting Weiland, “music plays a large part in our aesthetic inspiration”. And it shows. Their unmistakable designs masterfully balance modern streetwear with romantic preppiness.

What we admire most about the threesome’s cult style is how they do it so unapologetically. Imagine a collection inspired by world renown street artist Keith Haring - herringbone and houndstooth prints mingling with zigzags in neon yellows. Or the time when the brand paired a quilted brocade biker jacket with a pleated brocade tennis skirt. The best part about all of this is that it works.

And if fashion and music weren’t enough for this inspired brand, we’re even more excited about what’s next on the list for Timo Weiland. The brand has now moved into a completely different and even bigger space: hotel design. With their liberal aesthetic and sharp designs, we can’t say we’re surprised.
