Get To Know: Karla Spetic

Lulu Be Mine

Posted on October 18 2018

Having moved to Brisbane as a child with her parents, to escape war torn Croatia in 1993, it was when she moved to Sydney after being accepted into esteemed Sydney Fashion Design Studio that her life as a fashion designer took an upward trajectory. In similar alumni company as acclaimed names in the Australian design scene such as Nicky Zimmerman, Akira Isogawa, Wayne Cooper, Dion Lee and more. It was then a mere two years from graduation that Karla Spetic showcased her first collection in the 2008 Rosemount Australian Fashion Week. It was also the start of her steady growth from a niche brand to a household name in the industry.

Fast forward 10 years, bi-yearly collection presentations, a myriad of local and international stockists, and fashion influencer names like GaryPepper, Susie Buble and Natalie Moos to call loyal fans, Karla Spetic cements as a designer for the sophisticated unique.

And rightfully so. Sheer organza trench coats in bubblegum hues, digital prints of stained glass windows - think Jesus embracing a baby lamb, her signature v neck cut out shirts and those coveted low slung man trousers in silk. Karla designs for the modern woman who proudly connects with her girly feminine side. Frills and lace on spaghetti midi dresses, front sheer panelling on midi skirts, floral appliqué on boxy cropped sheer t-shirts, her collections portray femininity for a real world setting, effortlessly.

Always looking to her natural surroundings to create her collections, Karla designs for the young at heart with a sense of sophistication. Words like "organic" and "longevity" are but some of the words she uses to describe her design ideals. And with that in mind,  the evolving Lula girl to woman we're becoming, definitely wants in on that grown up, quirky cool world of Karla Spetic.
